Salon Scherenwerk works between Nikolaifleet and the old counting houses: few seats, plenty of daylight and time for cutting, colour and bridal styling. Sit here and you won't hear a queue behind you.
The space
Four chairs, two wash stations, no turnover
The salon is on the ground floor of a merchant's house on Deichstraße and deliberately has only four service chairs – more simply wouldn't fit the room or our standard for a calm conversation.
The cutting stations are at the front by the window, while the wash area with two basins and padded neck rests is at the back. The two zones are a good three metres apart – enough that mixing colour doesn't disturb anyone who's just drifting off.

Location and directions
Between Nikolaifleet and the old merchant houses
Deichstraße 5 is on the oldest surviving street in Hamburg, just a few steps from the water and right on the walking route between Rathausmarkt and Speicherstadt – most guests arrive on foot or by train.
On foot
From Rathausmarkt, the way leads via Große Johannisstraße and Hopfenmarkt straight to Deichstraße. Allow around ten minutes.
By train and bus
The nearest stops are Rödingsmarkt and Rathaus, both just under five minutes' walk away. From the main station it's two stops.
By car
Deichstraße itself is narrow and largely reserved for residents. The car parks at Rödingsmarkt and on Willy-Brandt-Straße are the closest.
By bike
Racks for four bikes are right in front of the building. The cycle path along Willy-Brandt-Straße ends one street before.
Arriving
Five minutes ahead of time is plenty. If you're early, you can wait by the window rather than in the hallway – water and tea are ready.

Atmosphere
What an hour with us looks like
You'll find us in Hamburg's old town, a few minutes' walk from Mönckebergstraße and Speicherstadt. The salon is on the ground floor of a merchant's house, the entrance is step-free and the door is wide enough for walkers and prams. If you're coming from the office, you can drop by on your lunch break; if you're driving, you can leave the car in the car park next door. Just let us know when booking if you'd like a seat near the window or extra legroom.
- Underground/S-Bahn: Mönckebergstraße and Hauptbahnhof stations are each about five minutes' walk away, Rödingsmarkt station about eight minutes.
- Bus: Rathausmarkt stop, then straight on across the Alsterfleet crossing.
- Car: car park in the neighbouring building, entrance via the side street; the surrounding resident zones are enforced on weekdays.
- Bike: covered racks right in front of the building, lockable at the frame.
- Access: level entrance with no step, cloakroom and WC on the same floor.

How a visit with us unfolds depends on the occasion — the framework stays the same: a place for your belongings, a conversation before the first cut, and time that matches the service you've booked.
Reception and Cloakroom
Arrive five minutes early, and there's time to settle in with your jacket, bag and a drink. Coats and backpacks hang in the closed cloakroom cabinet, and you take valuables with you to your seat. First-time visitors fill out a short card about hair structure, scalp and previous treatments — this also plays a part in how a colour is later applied.

Before the cape goes on, we talk through what you'd like and what's achievable while your hair is still dry. We look at cowlicks, growth direction and roots, ask about your morning styling routine, and let you know the duration and price range before anything begins. For colouring and balayage, a strand test is included if the hair has been previously treated.
At the wash stations with neck support, the team washes twice and massages the scalp. Depending on the condition of your hair, a treatment is then applied to the lengths and left to work while you relax in your seat. If you're sensitive to fragrance, just let us know — we keep fragrance-free alternatives on hand.
The cut is mostly done on damp hair, with the line checked once it's dry. For colour, we separate roots and lengths and mix each batch fresh; balayage is applied freehand so the transition stays soft. You can watch the process unfold in the mirror and ask questions at any time.
To finish, we blow-dry and style your hair in a way you can recreate at home — explaining which brush and how much product you'll need. At the till, you can pay by cash or card, and if you like, we'll book your next appointment right away. For colour services, we recommend a root touch-up after six to eight weeks.
